Atlanta restaurant Tin Drum Asian Kitchen beefs up team for growth

Franchisee/investors take on operations, marketing and business development roles

final Altaf (2).jpgThe 11-unit Tin Drum Asian Kitchen concept has named Altaf Popatiya, left, to the role of chief operating officer, the company said Friday.

In addition, the Atlanta-based chain Amisha Popatiya director of marketing. The Popatiyas, who are married, are also investors and co-owners of the brand, owning three units.

final 3 amisha.jpgAltaf Popatiya will be responsible for leading overall operations, while Amisha Popatiya will lead the brand’s marketing strategy as the concept looks for growth outside the Atlanta area, the company said.

Further expanding the executive team, Matt Schinelli, below, was named director of business development. Schinelli was the concept’s first franchisee who opened the restaurant in Dunwoody, Ga. He now owns three units and became a shareholder in 2012.

The fast-casual pan-Asian concept’s growth has been supported by a 2010 investment by private-equity firm BIP Capital, which also owns the Tropical Smoothie chain.
