RW F&B hospitality group brings five new concepts to Flower Mound’s River Walk Social entertainment district

The North Texas development will welcome an English pub, a family-friendly sports bar, brick-oven pizza, and more

Head 30 miles northwest from Dallas and you’ll hit Flower Mound: a suburb of about 80,000 people and home to the River Walk, a 158-acre mixed-use development that’s anchored by a tree-lined waterway. Last fall, a new management group took charge of the dining concepts there, rebranding the restaurant row to River Walk Social.

“We spent a lot of time looking at what is offered in the community now and where there may be opportunities to provide the River Walk and Flower Mound with new offerings,” said veteran chef and hospitality pro Greg Retz.

He’s the new CEO of RW F&B, the group behind the effort. As part of the transition, they are closing existing concepts Scout, Primo’s and Sfereco, which are owned by a different group and have additional locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

First up is Underdogs Burgers & Brew, a family-oriented sports bar with a large indoor and outdoor play area for kids. The menu features a dozen burgers starring 100% Texas wagyu beef sourced from Texas’ HeartBrand Beef, plus sandwiches, wings, salads, and an extensive kids menu.

Pennywise is a traditional English pub with décor evocative of London. The menu includes dishes like bangers and mash, steak and ale pie, fish and chips and a Monte Cristo sandwich, and the bar pours a selection of European beers and beer flights.

Pie Hole Pizza is a brick-oven shop that will primarily focus on pick-up and delivery orders but does have a small dining area. The 14-inch pizzas begin with homemade dough and range from classics to creative builds, and the menu also features sandwiches, salads, beer, and wine.

Whiskey and Smoke is a table-service smokehouse and bourbon bar that will serve brisket, St. Louis-style ribs, pulled pork, chicken, smoked sausage, and a range of side dishes. The kitchen will cure and smoke pastrami and bacon in house and make all sauces and rubs from scratch. The south side of the building will have a pickup window for family-style orders and to-go packs. Those dining in can partake in the bar, which will make cocktails, including a few that are smoked, and serve bourbon flights.

Lastly, Sugar Fix is a combination coffee/gelato/doughnut bar that will sport all the requisite drip coffees and espresso drinks alongside an 18-flavor gelato case and mini doughnuts.

Retz said the company is still navigating permits with the city, so an exact opening timeline is difficult to nail down. But Underdogs is open now, and Pennywise and Piehole should open soon. Sugarfix and Whiskey Smoke are the most complicated renovations, so they’ll take more time.

These five openings give the RW F&B team plenty to do, but there’s still more on the horizon.

“We don’t want to tip our hat,” said Retz, “but there are exciting things to come for the Social. Rest assured that we will continue to grow and be a part of the Flower Mound community.”
