Restaurant: Eastern Standard Kitchen & Drink, Boston
Creator: Naomi Levy
Inspiration: To create a beverage that represents her Israeli roots and the rum’s Latin American heritage.
Key Ingredients: Bacardi Superior Rum, guava puree, coffee-scented simple syrup, lime juice, cilantro leaves, pinch of salt and grated espresso beans for garnish
What Others Said: “Levy’s cocktails are often culinary-driven . . . She sets out to create a balanced cocktail and then adds ingredients from her childhood to make her personal statement.” —Boston magazine
What the Judges Said: “We had no clue that guava puree was a staple in Israel, and we’re not sure how important that point is to sippers. Most know, however, how sweet guava puree can be. Levy manages to tame that sweetness with the lime, cilantro, salt and coffee to create a balanced rum cocktail with character. To you, Ms. Levy, we say mazel tov!”
