Chef Marcus Samuelsson opens new seasonal rooftop bar, Marcus at NoHu Rooftop, at EnVue Hotel in Weehawken, N.J.

The new restaurant’s menu will feature local, seasonal produce and elevated soul-food favorites

Across the river from Manhattan lies a whole state with gorgeous, panoramic views of the city. This is where Chef Marcus Samuelsson has decided to open his newest restaurant, Marcus at NoHu Rooftop Bar & Restaurant – in Weehawken, N.J.

“Right now, being able to have a great meal outside in a beautiful setting with incredible views is needed more than ever, which is what made this opportunity one I couldn’t pass up,” Samuelsson said in a company release, referring to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Located on the rooftop of the EnVue Hotel in Port Imperial, a 200-acre built community in Weehawken, the 15,000-square-foot outdoor rooftop restaurant boasts a seasonally appropriate menu including fruits like peaches and tomatoes while also incorporating branzino and okra. The restaurant continues Samuelsson’s mission to use local farms and suppliers.

“The people in and around the Port Imperial community are craving new and exciting things to safely enjoy with their loved ones,” said Matthes Metz, general manager of EnVue, in a release. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to team up with the powerhouse Chef Marcus Samuelsson to bring our community an amazing new dining offering during this difficult time period.”

Samuelsson currently operates three NYC restaurants across the river, Red Rooster, Uptown Brasserie and Ginny’s Supper Club; one New Jersey restaurant, Marcus B&P; one Miami restaurant, Red Rooster Overton; and one restaurant with locations in both Illinois and California, Marc Burger. Samuelsson and his group, Marcus Samuelsson Group, co-operated by Samuelsson and CEO Derek Evans, also operate six other international restaurants, including two in Samuelsson’s native Sweden.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Samuelsson has turned several restaurants, including Red Rooster in Harlem and Marcus B+P in Newark, N.J., into community kitchens, partnering with José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen.
