America’s love affair with the burger is as strong as ever as consumers demand more indulgent ingredients and bold and spicy flavors.
Whether the restaurant is quick service or high end, commercial or noncommercial, foodservice operators are dressing up their burgers with a variety of unusual accompaniments including jams, eggs, spicy condiments such as TABASCO® Sauce, corn fritters and beer-infused cheese and macaroni. While regarded as a food for all seasons, the boldly flavored burger is an especially popular menu item during big game days such as the Super Bowl or March Madness.
“There have been huge changes with how burgers have evolved,” says Amanda Ferencz, a spokeswoman for Datassential, a Chicago-based market research firm.
