Spike Mendelsohn pool party

Spike makes a splash

This is part of Restaurant Hospitality’s special coverage of the 2016 South Beach Wine and Food Festival held in Miami Beach, Feb. 24-28.

Washington, D.C.-based chef Spike Mendelsohn held his annual pool party at the recent South Beach Food & Wine Festival. More than a dozen of the country’s top chefs competed in a variety of pool games, including raft relay races. The event was sponsored by Tervis Wine Glass. Check out the action from this splash-filled event.

Some of those who competed in the “Spike the Pool Event” were (top row) Todd Erickson, JJ Johnson, Franklin Becker, Pat LaFrieda, Spike Mendelsohn, Matt Meltzer (Thrillist Miami Editor), Tim Love and David Gaus. In the front row are Kenny Gilbert, Aaron Sanchez, Marc Murphy and Josh Capon.

A game of pool basketball attracted the likes of (from left) Spike Mendelsohn, Alon Shaya, Kenny Gilbert and Aaron Sanchez.

New York chef Marc Murphy and freelance writer Sara Ventiera race cocktails across the pool.

Pausing for a cocktail are (from left) Tim Love, Spike Mendelsohn, Rogan Donnelly (of Tervis) and Pat LaFrieda.
