Seventeen Chinese restaurants were robbed in Norwalk, VA, last year, and three more in January. A police officer there, Karen Alsup, had the bright idea of having a booklet of security tips translated from English to Chinese. The Chinese version was distributed to about 40 Chinese restaurants and, as a result, no robbery has occurred in a Norwalk Chinese restaurant since January. Tina Chen, who works in a Chinese restaurant there, said the security tips were easy to follow once they were translated into Chinese. Officer Asup didn’t need a fortune cookie to figure that one out.
