St. Louis chef expands hometown Asian food scene

With Indo, Nick Bognar builds on his parents’ restaurant success

James Beard Award semifinalist Nick Bognar is branching out from his family’s widely known restaurants with Indo, a modern Asian restaurant in his hometown of St. Louis.

Nominated as a Beard “Rising Star Chef of the Year” “earlier this year for the transformation of his mother’s restaurant, Nippon Tei, Bognar is continuing to transform the Japanese, Thai and Southeast Asian culinary scene in the St. Louis area.

Opened 19 years ago, Nippon Tei gave Bognar the foundation in the kitchen and he saw the introduction of more Japanese and Thai flavors to the St. Louis food scene. After working at several restaurants as executive chef, he took time to travel Cambodia and Thailand before transforming Nippon Tei and opening Indo at age 27.

Take a look at the Indo food offerings in the accompanying slideshow.
