With a restaurant name like Tacos 4 Life, you might assume that this 18-unit chain based in Conway, Ark., has a mission, and you would be right.
Ashton Samuelson and her husband Austin Samuelson started with the idea of developing a business that could help feed hungry children throughout the world, and they thought that restaurants would be a great avenue for that.
Not having any experience working in foodservice, they thought, “How hard can it be?”
They soon learned that it was really hard, but they persevered and have sold millions of tacos, giving around 25 cents of each sale to Minneapolis-based hunger relief organization Feed My Starving Children. To date, they and their franchisees have paid for more than 15 million meals.
In this video, Ashton Samuelson discusses her favorite menu item, the Korean Barbecue Taco, and also how she gets the local communities involved in putting together meals for children in need across the globe.
