The restaurant helmed by iconic Chicago football coach, Mike Ditka, closed for good in May after 24 years serving downtown Chicago tourists and locals.
On the restaurant’s now-deleted Chicagoland Facebook page, serving other locations in Chicago and the suburbs as well, the restaurant was confirmed closed due to coronavirus.
“We have made the extremely difficult decision to close our Chicago restaurant due to the economic impact of COVID-19 and the short term left on our lease.”
According to the Chicago Sun Times, Ditka was not on good terms with the hotel ownership where Ditka’s was located. “It was not an amiable situation with the new ownership at the Tremont Hotel, but they can do what they want,” he told the paper, “Things change. The world isn’t going away because we are closing.”
