Located in Manhattan’s Herald Square, the new Beyond Sushi restaurant accommodates up to 72 people and offers full table service. It features a wraparound sushi bar, as well as a drinking bar.
The design, a template for Beyond Sushi locations to come, combines industrial-style elements with vibrant orange and green colors. Recycled cans from the restaurant were incorporated into the backdrop.
Beyond Sushi serves sushi rolls, dumplings, noodle and rice salads, starter and noodle soups, and rice paper wraps, all made with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and housemade sauces.
An appetizer is the piece sampler, a four-piece black rice sushi set featuring, from left to right: charred corn with harissa and cilantro, curried cauliflower with almond pesto, seaweed salad with chili flakes and sesame seeds and roasted tomato with tomato guajillo.
Dumplings are another appetizer, like the Fun-Guy, which is made from braised porcini, shiitake, portabella mushrooms, baked tofu and spinach, topped with micro arugula, chili-toasted panko, and a spicy bean and shiitake truffle sauce.
The main course menu includes sushi rolls, like the Spicy Mang, rear, which has avocado, mango, English cucumber and black rice topped with spicy vegetables and toasted cayenne sauce. Other roll options are the Mighty Mushroom, center, made from six-grain rice, enoki mushrooms, baked tofu and braised shiitake, with a topping of toasted cayenne sauce and alfalfa sprouts. The Pickle Me, front, features six-grain rice, pickled burdock root and daikon, carrots and avocado with a carrot ginger sauce.
Beyond Sushi also offers rice paper wraps, like the Nutty Buddy, packed with baby greens, soba noodles, jalapeño peanut butter, carrots, cashews, avocado, baked tofu and cilantro, topped with ponzu.
At the new location, diners can order drinks like the matcha mocktail, a non-alcoholic beverage made from cucumber, matcha and coconut water.
The drink menu will include the addition of alcoholic beverages, available from the wraparound bar that serves an assortment of sake and healthful craft cocktails. The dessert menu will include a new espresso pound cake with caramelized kumquats, chocolate oat disc, whipped coconut cream, caramel sauce and orange zest.
The Herald Square location will operate from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, with delivery and take-out available through Beyond Sushi’s website ordering platform and app. Beyond Sushi will open its fifth location in the Financial District in June.
