The 4,500-square-foot flagship location, which opened in 2019, is in the Los Angeles city of Inglewood. The décor of each unit features art from local artists, which, along with an emphasis on customer service, helps create a sense of community.
The most recent Hilltop location opened in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock last fall, though it’s limited to to-go and outdoor seating for now.
Co-founders Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan set out to create a space that was inclusive – one that offers a vibe that encourages creative minds to get together and discuss ideas. “One of the things that we talk about is that it would be great to one day have someone create something amazing, and say that they were sitting inside a Hilltop when the idea came to them,” said Hagos.
Actress, writer and entrepreneur Issa Rae is an equity partner in the coffee concept.
Hagos and Relan also own a sports bar and restaurant together in Hollywood called The Parlor. They plan to focus growth for Hilltop on the Los Angeles area for now, but the two see potential for nationwide growth.
