A new collaboration between 886, a modern Taiwanese restaurant in New York City, and local ice cream shop Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is a limited-edition treat inspired by Lunar New Year. The Year of the Pig Sandwich, named after the Chinese zodiac animal determined for 2019, is a fried bun with a pineapple cake-inspired ice cream from Van Leeuwen, along with spicy honey and candied bacon. The dessert will be served during weekend brunch service and as a secret off-the-menu item during dinner starting Jan. 19. At Van Leeuwen, the specialty ice cream flavor, made with caramelized pineapple jam, buttery miso shortbread, a sweet cream base and vanilla will be available at the East Village shop starting Jan. 16.
