On any given day, nearly half of adults ate a sandwich.
A majority of menus in the U.S. are serving sandwiches.
Nearly half (48 percent) of all sandwiches were eaten at lunch, and about one third (31 percent) at dinner.
12 percent of consumers said cheese was the most important component, while 9 percent said bread.
The most commonly consumed types of sandwich were cold-cut sandwiches (27 percent), burgers (17 percent) and poultry sandwiches (12 percent).
