Now open: 5 exciting new restaurants across the South

From fine-dining in Miami to omakase in Austin and a massive beer garden in Dallas

The hospitality sector in the South has been busy so far in 2024, with multiple cities welcoming new concepts from established hospitality groups and upstart chefs alike. These new restaurants range from Michelin-star chef counters and intimate omakase spots, to casual neighborhood hangouts and everything in between.

Fort Lauderdale just introduced Maass — the latest concept from chef Ryan Ratino and Hive Hospitality, the Washington D.C. group behind two Michelin-starred Jônt and one Michelin-starred Bresca. In Atlanta, local diners just got a new French bistro called Resto L’Antoinette.

Over in Texas, a handful of Uchiko alums struck out on their own to open Craft Omakase in Austin. Dallas restaurateur Jon Alexis continues building his hospitality empire with Birdie’s Eastside, a sprawling restaurant and beer garden with a polished menu and family-friendly environs. Finally, Joey — the popular Canadian concept that’s recently been expanding in the U.S. — opened its first location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
