Category: Whiskey/Bourbon
Restaurant: Gunshow, Atlanta
Creator: Mercedes O’Brien
Inspiration: “This is the first cocktail I created for Gunshow. It combines my love of the old fashioned, Kevin’s (chef/owner Kevin Gillespie) love of cinnamon and the bruleed method used in iconic tableside dessert carts.”
Key Ingredients: Bourbon, bitters, burnt sugar syrup, bruléed cinnamon, flamed orange.
Price: $10
What the Judges Said: Ms. O’Brien, whose title is cocktail cart conductor, prepares cocktails tableside, which is quite entertaining for customers and a brilliant method to generate more cocktail sales. She, too, elevates the Old Fashioned while making a show of it, which would merely be delightful if the cocktail in question did not live up to the performance. It does! The burnt sugar syrup adds a caramel flavor that traditional syrup does not. Add to that the deep and fragrant flavors of bruléed cinnamon and flamed orange, and you’ve got a cocktail that deserves a standing ovation.
