Posting pics of restaurant meals has become ubiquitous on the photo-sharing social platform Instagram. A recent study found that those posts can pay off for restaurants. Twenty-two percent of respondents said they visited a restaurant based on social media posts. (Fast Company)
Square for Restaurants debuts

Square, a mobile payments provider, has debuted Square for Restaurants, a POS system that can manage menu updates, employee scheduling, splitting the tip and other functions. More than 100 restaurants have been using Square for Restaurants in beta. (Tech Crunch)
NRA calls federal menu-labeling law “huge win”

In an opinion piece for The Hill, Cicely Simpson, executive vice president of public affairs for the NRA, calls the passage of a federal menu-labeling law “a huge win for all of us.” The law mandates that restaurants with 20 or more units must post calorie counts on menus. The NRA worked closely with government agencies on the regulation. (The Hill)
“Yelp for noise” app goes to Baltimore

Soundprint, a mobile app that’s been called “Yelp for noise,” collects data on average decibel levels at restaurants. Soundprint has teamed up with the Hearing and Speech Agency in Baltimore to provide sonic information on the city’s restaurants. (Baltimore Sun)
