Michael Mina announces new restaurant, Mother Tongue, in a Los Angeles fitness center

Chef partners with lifestyle brand HEIMAT to bring newest Mina Group restaurant to life

James Beard award-winning chef Michael Mina has announced a new restaurant – Mother Tongue – to launch in a Los Angeles fitness club opening in 2022.

Mother Tongue, a concept from Mina’s multiconcept group Mina Group, will be “a place for a night out for dinner with friends, a happy hour cocktail, a business lunch or breakfast with colleagues,” according to a company release.

The menu will be comprised of “global fare” with “vibrant and clean ingredients that nourish the body and mind,” according to the company.

“Over the last few years, we have had a deep desire to create an experience that balances a destination dining experience that is rooted in wellness,” Michael Mina said in a release. “HEIMAT is the ideal location for us to further showcase our commitment to wellness through our standard dining pillars of exceptional service, using the highest-quality ingredients in a convivial atmosphere. The goal of Mother Tongue is to create a culinary destination with food that makes you feel amazing.”

The restaurant is in collaboration with HEIMAT, a concept fitness club with restaurants operating out of Los Angeles and owned by RSG Group. RSG Group owns and operates Gold’s Gym, McFIT, the John Reed family of clubs and creative and lifestyle brands such as Marcell Von Berlin, Ron Miller and Pearl Model Management.

Mother Tongue will be inside the new HEIMAT global flagship location in Los Angeles, set to open next year. The space will span 75,000-square-feet and five floors, encompassing a space for wellness as well as culinary concepts.

"As a Michelin-starred chef, Michael Mina is an acclaimed and well-respected talent in the restaurant industry. Together with him, we are creating for the first time a unique relationship between the distinct experience of a starred kitchen with a concept fitness club, HEIMAT," Rainer Schaller, founder and CEO of RSG Group, said in a release. "Through our friendship, Michael and I have found that we both not only have a great passion for good food—we also share the understanding that it can evoke cherished memories. Mother Tongue is the result of our search for the origins of diverse food cultures and the comfortable feeling of home that is experienced through all senses."

The restaurant will be open to the public, not just club members.

Mina Group encompasses more than 40 brick-and-mortar and virtual restaurant brands ranging from Bourbon Burger Bar in Del Mar, Calif., to Estiatorio Ornos a Michael Mina Restaurant in Miami and San Francisco to Michael Mina in Las Vegas.
