On the inspiration behind utilizing an airplane fuselage, Lew said, “It represents the storyline of crashing in a tropical jungle and surviving and thriving in an adventurous and dangerous environment.”
“For us, Last Rites encompasses a feeling of adventure, excitement and a little danger. We were inspired by pulp novels where often times the hero was captured by ‘natives’ to be sacrificed to their gods only to narrowly escape on the last page,” said Lew.
“Our intention was to create a space where one would be lost in the environment, losing concept of time of day or outside locale,” said Lew.
The most popular drink, and the signature namesake cocktail, features Mount Gay Black Barrel rum, house white rum, overproof rum blend, lime, passion-fruit syrup, blackstrap-molasses syrup, and a secret Last Rites mix.
Made with buttered-popcorn rum, coconut cream, lemon, apricot liqueur, cocoa-nib bitters and pepper tincture.
In the movie, Jock Lindsay was a pilot. The drink is comprised of mezcal, tequila, lime, celery, coconut cream, Montenegro, absinthe, and bitter-lemon soda.
Cocktails were created by Ian Scalzo, Susan Eggette, and Sevan Araneda. With more than 150 types of rum, the bar also offers spins on the traditional Mai Tai, Fogcutter, and jungle bird.
