The Haven Rooftop at The Sanctuary Hotel in New York City is now the Haven Ski Chalet, an elegantly decorated space with white lights, holiday décor, faux snow machines and hot seasonal sips like a ginger toddy.
The Late Late in New York City is celebrating the holiday season with a festive and kitschy pop-up that comes with specialty cocktails such as the Oh, F…udge! The drink is crafted with cognac, green chartreuse and hot chocolate, and topped with marshmallow meringue and peppermint candy. The takeover is open through February 2019.
Tack Room, located inside Thalia Hall in Chicago, will transform its space into the Reindeer Room, complete with sparkling lights, ornaments and other seasonal decorations, starting Nov. 30 through Christmas. While the pop-up is in place, there will be drinks — each one named after Santa’s reindeer — and holiday tunes played live on the piano every Friday night.
The Freehold in Brooklyn, N.Y., has turned its courtyard and penthouse lodge, a fully enclosed and heated space, into a winter wonderland with festive lights, a Christmas tree, fireplace, blankets and pillows. The pop-up will hold a holiday market event on Nov. 30 featuring local designers, tarot card reading, stick-and-poke tattoos and a DJ.
Through New Year’s Eve, the Kimpton Everly Hotel in Los Angeles is playing host to Miracle, a Christmas-themed bar concept that is popping up at 80 locations worldwide this year. The hotel's lobby bar, Ever Bar, has been transformed with festive holiday décor, serving Miracle’s themed cocktails such as the Run Run Rudolph, made with prosecco, gin, mulled wine purée, lemon and cane syrup.
Mr. Purple, a rooftop bar in New York City, will open as an après-ski lodge the first week of December. The pop-up, in partnership with Veuve Clicquot, will be decorated like a snow globe with a champagne bar and décor based on the champagne brand. The menu will feature seasonal hot beverages, Veuve Clicquot cocktails and chocolate and cheese fondue. The pop-up will stay open through February 2019.
Saint Lou’s Assembly in Chicago has turned its backyard patio into a holiday lot where guests can buy a tree for their own festivities. The lot will be open until Dec. 24.
The décor includes a floor-to-ceiling swing, floral installation, lights in the tunnels and on the ceiling, and mistletoe above the bars.
There are themed menu items for the pop-up such as a 14-inch gingerbread cookie skillet with boozy ice cream scooped tableside for $25. The dessert serves 10 people.
From Nov. 30 through Dec. 30, The Springs in Brooklyn, N.Y., will host Donner & Blitzen’s Reindeer Lounge. The holiday pop-up will include floor-to-ceiling Christmas trees, a candy cane wall, four grand fireplaces, a social media-friendly mural of reindeer playing poker, festive cocktails and bites like fried s’mores. The Springs will also include holiday programming with DJs and ugly sweater parties through the duration of the pop-up.
The Skinny in New York City will move in a different direction from other operators by hosting an anti-holiday pop-up from Nov. 29 through Jan. 31. Dubbed “Helliday Inn,” the space will include Christmas lights and decorations, red walls with the heads of Santa’s reindeer, a Santa’s Wheel of Misfortune, a sad Santa onsite nightly, a piano player performing dirty Christmas carols live, and drag and burlesque shows. The pop-up will also host Krampus Karaoke and Trivia and other special events.
