Beverage trend alert: Form and function

Three beverages with eye-catching, healthful ingredients

The next big beverage trend? Drinks that look good and are good for you too. Colorful, social media-worthy drinks have previously been relegated to the high sugar content world of smoothies, neon-colored cocktail mixes and plastic umbrellas. But the latest beverage trend combines form and function for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks that look just as good as they feel to your gut.

Here’s how a few different restaurants and bars are cashing in on this trend with eye-catching, healthful ingredients:

2. Pink Lady Lemonade at Parakeet Café, San Diego — Butterfly pea tea (commonly known as the color-changing tea with a purplish-blue hue) with lavender honey and sparkling water.

3. Hachi at Hard Rock Hotel, Atlantic City, N.J. — infused bourbon blended with four Japanese mushrooms and grape seed oil with lemon juice, black pepper simple syrup Mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine) and a lemon twist.
