New on the Menu: Restaurants get creative with delivery, meal kits and drinking games during coronavirus pandemic

Flavor Dojo

Denver chef and restaurateur Jennifer Jasinski has launched a lunch pop-up called Flavor Dojo featuring salads and grain bowls in her Rioja restaurant, available for online ordering and pickup from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays.

House-made sodas and craft root beer and three local beers are available for $4 apiece, along with wild rice rice-crispy treats and the following bowls:

Anson Mills Farro Verde: Rebel Farms greens, crunchy seed mix, almonds, corn and baby heirloom tomatoes in Dijon mustard-tarragon vinaigrette, $11

Spicy Green: Green mix, endive, Haystack Farms goat cheese, avocado, crunchy seed mix and tow hard-boiled eggs in jalapeño cream vinaigrette, $9

Chilled Buckwheat Soba Noodle: Soba, sugar snap peas, pickled carrots, red onion, Verde Farms pea shoots, peanuts and cilantro in Thai chile vinaigrette, $11

Succotash Heirloom Bean: Rancho Gordo scarlet runner and gigante beans, corn, peas, tomato, edamame, endive, torn herbs and shaved Parmesan in white balsamic vinaigrette, $13

Seaweed Salad: Wakame and pulse seaweed, greens, hearts of palm, avocado, pickled carrot, sugar snap peas and edamame in yuzu vinaigrette, $12

A wide variety of proteins can be added, including grilled chicken breast for $5, cardamom brined pork belly for $10.50, hoisin braised short rib for $13.50, crispy soppressata for $5, seared or raw diced tuna for $10.50, Gulf shrimp for $5, two hard boiled eggs for 2.50 and sesame-soy-chile marinated tofu for $5.

Titanic Package Drinking Game

Miki’s Park, a recently opened Korean-inspired restaurant in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, is selling everything you need to play a drinking game at home. The Titanic Package, as it’s called includes a bottle of soju, a 6-pack of Hite light lager, a custom designed shot glass and instructions. The game is actually an interactive version of somaek, a Korean boilermaker of soju and light beer. Players take turns pouring soju into a shot glass that is floating in a glass of beer. Whoever sinks it has to drink it all.

Dumpling Kit 

Northern Tiger, a Chinese restaurant in New York City’s Brookfield Place, has introduced a line of meal kits, including this one that has 25 frozen dumplings — guests have a choice of heritage pork & chive, chicken & wood ear mushrooms or seasonal vegetables — along with a jar of spicy “chili crisp” condiment and dumpling sauce

Full Smörgåsbord

Aquavit, the fine-dining Swedish restaurant in New York City, has launched a takeout menu available for pickup between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It includes pickled herring and other cold seafood, Swedish meatballs and sausages, bread and pastry and this full Swedish buffet of three types of herring, gravlax and Hovmästar (mustard-dill) sauce, shrimp toast, egg salad, potatoes, cheese, flatbread, rye bread, meatballs, sausage, mustard, lingonberries and cucumbers

Cannoli Kit

Café Ugo, a 3-unit chain in Los Angeles, has put together this dessert activity for guests to take home (or have delivered within a 3-mile radius of the Culver City, Calif., location). Each kit has four cannoli shells, ricotta filling, powdered sugar, pistachios, chocolate chips and a pastry bag.

Lettuce Delivered

Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, the Chicago-based group of more than 60 restaurant concepts, has launched a delivery service for the northern suburbs of Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Deerfield, Glenview and Northbrook. 

The company has picked select items from RPM Italian, RPM Steak, il Porcellino, Sushi-San, Ramen-San, Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, Ema, Hub 51 and Bub City, and consolidated them all onto one page on the reservation portal Tock. It’s available seven days a week with a delivery window from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. all orders must be placed by 4:30 p.m. the day before.

Price: $100 order minimum, before tax and delivery fee
