Cookies and Cream Sundae
Lettuce Entertain You, RPM Steak, Chicago
Part of a line of “Over-the-Top Sundaes,” this interactive dessert at RPM Steak features cookies-and-cream ice cream dressed up with a ganache ripple throughout and a generous pour of another childhood memory: magic chocolate shell topping. Continuing the upscale ice cream parlor vibe, there’s also a pineapple rum cake sundae with pineapple sorbet and vanilla gelato.
Wafflejack, Los Angeles
“Stranger Things” fans with a sweet tooth are the target market for this special at Wafflejack, which brings to life the series’ bad guy, the Demogorgon. More tasty than terrifying, this is a waffle topped with cookie crumbles, cheesecake spread and Nutella drizzle. Fresh strawberries and strawberry drizzle create the “gore.”
“Oreoo” Cookie Bao
Hiroo Nagahara, chef, Bar Hiroo, Los Angeles
Chef Hiroo Nagahara’s newly opened Bao Hiroo bills itself as “a place where shapeshifters and hot buns are everywhere…a place to get weird…” A place where each bao is crafted with homemade dough and a “pinch of mischief.” Bao Hiroo’s dessert bao, the “Oreoo” cookie bao is an homage to Nagahara’s favorite cookie. The bodacious bao is filled with Guittard chocolate and Tahitian vanilla then topped with a crunchy pinch of sea salt.
The Dolly Llama Shake
Samuel Baroux, owner/founder, The Dolly Llama, Los Angeles
As a garnish, this sure beats a celery stick. The Dolly Llama, a small chain that’s surfing the bubble/liege waffle trend, serves shakes that are camera-ready in gorgeous pastel hues and flavors like the Cookie Snob, Chocolate Lover and Snow Storm. The Dolly Llama shake is bright blue and made with Cookie Monster ice cream, milk, Oreo crumbs, whipped cream, Kinder bars and chocolate sauce.
