FDA announces plans to hold hearing to discuss regulation of cell-cultured meat

The Food and Drug Administration will hold a hearing in July to determine the process for regulation of cell-cultured meat. Driven by high consumer demand for the so-called “clean meat,” which is grown from animal cells and does not require the slaughter of animals, the FDA said it will take the lead on the potential creation of safety regulations for these products. José Andrés unveils new concept to open in New York’s Hudson Yards

Mercado Little Spain will open when the Hudson Yards project is complete in spring 2019 and will mark Andrés’ first New York venture. The concept will be a market dedicated to Spain complete with three Spanish-themed restaurants surrounded by kiosks and food stalls. (Bloomberg)
How one restaurant’s battle with neighbors led to bankruptcy

La Bergerie, formerly located in Alexandria, V.A., has announced that it won’t reopen after a prolonged legal battle. After announcing plans to move into a historical building, neighbors filed a lawsuit against the 40-year-old restaurant, and the resulting legal fees put the restaurant permanently out of business. Italy tops world’s 50 Best Restaurants list

Italy’s Osteria Francescana was awarded the top honor this year. Last year’s winner, Daniel Humm’s Eleven Madison Park in New York, slipped to fourth-place. Last year’s second-place restaurant, Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca, held onto that ranking in this year’s list. (New York Times)
