Jim Barnhart, executive chef at 1833 Restaurant, tunes out the noise and welcomes visitors to the world-class college with his own brand of authenticity: the friendly, open, Midwestern, grew-up-on-a-farm kind. He did grow up just down the road — Oberlin is surrounded by the rural, flat land and endless rows of corn, soybeans and red barns in this part of Northeast Ohio.
