Disruptive players continue to raise the bar on menu
There is debate about what makes a restaurant concept “fast casual” and whether the relatively young segment is being squeezed.
Still, those competing in the segment are continuing to raise the bar with menu items this summer that seem a lot more fine-dining-worthy than what is typically offered at an order-at-the-counter concept.
It’s not enough just to make a burger or sandwich with slightly better ingredients. Consumers are looking for the same type of dishes they’d order at a high-end full-service restaurant. They just want it faster and cheaper.
