Baltimore, Chicago, Memphis, Tenn., Milwaukee and Oakland, Calif., are just some of the cities across the country that have held “black restaurant week” events to build support for eateries operated by African-Americans. While African-Americans account for 13 percent of the population, only 8 percent of restaurant owners and 8 percent of managers are African-American, according to the National Restaurant Association.
